When Alori finds herself pregnant on a ship years away from her non-human mate, she struggles to find a solution to keeping her mate involved and mentally healthy. It is not easy when a large part of his culture is centered on family and he is separated from his at a time when he should never be away from her side.

Across The Divide
An alert, steady and orange, sprang into existence in the upper left corner of Alori's vision. She frowned and opened it with a shift of her eyes. It was from her health monitor. She scowled, dismissed the alert until she was off shift, and turned her attention back to the eyelash-thin Plexa screen which curved around over half of her work-station. They had only been out of stasis for two days, and there were more important things to do than report to a Medi over what was probably nothing. The alert faded from her mind as the cadre of survey bots assigned to the planet below indicated they'd lost contact with three of their units in rapid succession. Probably just an unclassified predator who'd be shitting bio-parts for the next week, but she still had to do the legwork.
